PROVIDENCE – A national jewelry retailer unveiled Friday a study showing which charitable causes are the most popular in each U.S. state, and found that the Rhode Island chapter of a prominent health organization was the favorite within the Ocean State.

Shane Co. produced a study titled “The Most Popular Charitable Cause & Organization in Every U.S. State,” where the retailer analyzed Google search trend data collected from September 2021 to September 2022. According to its study, the American Heart Association – which has a Rhode Island chapter – is the Ocean State’s most popular charitable organization.

Shane Co.’s study noted that the American Heart Association, known for its research to help reduce cardiovascular ailments and death, was tied for second place with Goodwill Industries International as the most-searched charitable organization in the U.S. According to the organization’s 2021 fiscal year financial report, the American Heart Association nationwide brought in $250.5 million in charitable contributions.

Rhode Island was also one of 24 states according to Shane Co.’s study where religion was the most popular charitable cause, as well. In nearby Massachusetts, the Boston Children’s Museum was the Bay State’s most popular charitable organization per Shane Co.’s report and medical research was the Bay State’s most popular charitable cause.
