DAYTON, Ohio ‚€œ The University of Dayton women’s basketball team defeated the Rhode Island Rams 77-33 Wednesday evening at UD Arena. Dayton improves its overall record to 13-4 and is now 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Rhode Island falls to 11-7 and 3-3 in the Atlantic 10 after the loss. Jenna Burdette had a record-breaking night scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds for the Flyers, both of which are career-highs for the freshman point guard.

Five Flyers scored in double figures and Dayton out-rebounded Rhode Island 58-22. Juniors Kelley Austria and Amber Deane added 11 points each while seniors Ally Malott and Andrea Hoover both contributed 10 points. Hoover also led the team in rebounds with nine.

The Flyers started out hot in the first half knocking down 52 percent of their attempts from the field while connecting on 9-of-14 from the three-point range. UD held a commanding lead for the majority of the half led by Burdette and Deane who both had nine points apiece. Dayton’s 46 points marked the most points scored by the Flyers in the first half of a game for the season.

UD’s bench knocked down 30 points while Rhode Island’s bench only scavenged two points during the course of the game.

Dayton’s 37 defensive rebounds played a large part, leading to UD’s fast break points (23). In addition, 10 out of the 11 Flyers that played scored during the contest.

The Rams were led by Charise Wilson who shot 50% from the floor scoring 15 points for Rhode Island.

UD will make a road trip to Richmond, Virginia, as they play VCU Saturday, January 24 at 1:00 p.m. and then head to Richmond to take on the Spiders Wednesday, January 28.
