What Josh Hokit said about Michelle Obama, and why Jon Stewart reacted
The Daily Show host Jon Stewart criticized fighter Josh Hokit after the latter referred to Michelle Obama, former First Lady and wife of former President Barack Obama, as a man.
Stewart had quite an aggressive reaction to the comment made by the fighter during his post-fight interview at Sunday night’s UFC Freedom 250 event. The Trump administration hosted it on the White House lawn.
“My God, what a fucking asshole. Fucking asshole. I look forward to his performance on next week’s ‘Comics Unleashed,’” Stewart said after playing a clip of Hokit’s remark.
Hokit defeated Derrick Lewis during the June 14 fight held on the White House lawn. Following the victory, he was interviewed by Joe Rogan during the Paramount+ broadcast. During the interview, Hokit shouted, “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?” The remark drew attention online and prompted responses from commentators and social media users.
Earlier on The Daily Show, Stewart criticized conservative media outlets for expressing enthusiasm about the UFC event. At the same time, he criticized those outlets for their reactions to celebrations in New York. This was following the Knicks’ NBA championship victory. Stewart then played several clips of Newsmax anchors discussing the UFC event and sharing their reactions.
He said, “Yes, Sunday night gave the president and his acolytes an opportunity to rebut the joyous communion of teamwork that embodied the New York Knickerbockers for a joyless, Vegas-style trudge through the people’s house, now transformed into a gold-plated pummeling center where the gladiators’ god was praised for his forbearance, and of course, nutsack.”
He further added, “What a god-awful mockery of an event that somehow managed to find a way to devalue both combat sports and our national dignity. Who even aired this embarrassing shit?”
Hokit’s comment also generated criticism from some users on social media platforms, including X.
