CBS recently left fans shocked by abruptly deciding to axe the The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Now fans have grown concerned about the fate of another show: Late Night with Seth Meyers. So, will Late Night with Seth Meyers get canceled?
Here’s everything you need to know about the speculation surrounding the show.
Will Late Night with Seth Meyers also get canceled?
As of now, Late-Night with Seth Meyers is not getting canceled.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was axed by CBS due to financial issues despite soaring ratings and popularity. The timing of the decision gave rise to speculation as this was after Paramount Plus settled a $16 million lawsuit with President Donald Trump over a 60 Minutes interview.
However, CBS attributed finances as the reason for the conclusion. The company’s executives stated, “This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount” (via NBC News).
Amid this, fans were worried for the future of Seth Meyers’ show. Moreover, the host was seen expressing his concern for the future on the Armchair Expert podcast, which was shot before Colbert’s show’s cancellation.
He stated, “Only because it is such a time we’re living in as far as the entertainment industry.” Meyers further added, “There is this weird thing [where] I feel like I shifted from fearing that I wouldn’t be good enough, and now my fear is weirdly more outside my control, which is just at some point the ecosystem might not support it. I guess that’s better than thinking it’s your fault, but it is weird to not feel any control over it.”
The 51-year-old shared that he had faced issues in the past, saying, “I’ve had lower points in the body of the show where, early on in the show, we had some NBC executives actually say to us, ‘We’re very worried about how the show is going to go.’”
While there are various speculations, Late Night with Seth Meyers continues to air on NBC and is also available for streaming on Peacock.
