Yael Mazariv from Zarzir is a member of a mixed family. Her mother is Jewish from Kibbutz Ramat David, and her father is a native of the village from the Bedouin community. Despite her split identity and guaranteed exemption from conscription, she chose to follow in her father’s footsteps – a lieutenant colonel in the reserves, and became a fighter, rare for women in the Bedouin sector.
