Veteran actress Jamie Lee Curtis admitted that she did not understand her Oscar-winning movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, during the first reading. Everything Everywhere All At Once was not the most linear of stories to get. Even for the ones in the film, the story was hard to digest. Jamie Lee Curtis, who has been in the industry for almost six decades, had a hard time deciphering the script.
During her latest appearance on CBS News’ 60 Minutes for an interview, the 67-year-old actress was asked if she got Everything Everywhere All at Once when she first read it. She had a clear answer to this.
“Of course not,” Curtis said, “Not one second of it. Did I understand that script? No.”
The plot incorporated concepts like parallel timelines and alternate outcomes, making it quite convoluted. However, Curtis, who played the IRS agent in the film, admitted that she did not understand her own character from the script.
“We all know Dierdre. She’s a woman who’s not loved. She’s a woman who uses her power in her job to control people because she has no love in her life,” she added.
During this interview, Curtis also spoke about her famous parents, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, who also got Oscar nominations but failed to win the coveted award. “I think about surpassing my parents, which I have, emotionally. I’ve surpassed my parents with sobriety,” she said. The actress added, “My mother was restricted by what the industry wanted from her, expected from her, and would allow from her. My mother would have hated [2024 film] The Last Showgirl because I showed what I really looked like. I have — I don’t want to say surpassed them, but I have freedom.”
Curtis most recently appeared on Ella McCay in 2025 and remains an active part of the industry.
